  • dj came back to school with me on friday morning to volunteer at the clothing for the homeless program (st. martin's closet) here at seminary.  it was good to be able to offer clothes to those without, and heartwarming to have them ask us how OUR thanksgiving had been, when they are the ones who seem to have the need for care... thinking about these adult homeless people had me flash back on the LBGT teens at the shelter last weekend, and about how some folk found it remark-able that this shelter existed within the context of a church.

because i am an episcopalian, it didn't occur to me that this might be seen as worthy of remark at all, but i guess it is.  seeing as how the episcopal church had been ordaining openly gay priests for over 10 years (provided they were celibate, or at the very least in a monogamous, committed relationship), and just elected the first openly gay bishop (the bishop of new hampshire) over 2 years ago, accepting persons with differing sexual orientations doesn't seem momentous to me.  however, considering the reactions of many conservative parishes/dioceses within the episcopal church, as well as members of the greater anglican communion, perhaps it is.  there are churches and members of churches who refuse to accept LGBT persons into their midst without an acknowlegement of "sin" and a desire to change.  that is not how most episcopalians feel, however, nor does that way of thinking represent many of the christians of my acquaintance > most of us feel that everyone's sexuality is a matter between God and the person.  our relationship to others should simply be one of love and acceptance, regardless; we are not to judge.  God will take care of any of that... so where better to have an LBGT shelter than in a church?

on a separate note... when dj was sleeping on saturday (i let him sleep in since he doesn't often get the chance at home), i discovered this way cool kid's cartoon from canada > jane and the dragon.

janeandthedragon the animation is superb... the music is interesting, perhaps "modern-medieval", and the plots are intelligent.  i know it's supposed to be for kids, but it's my new favorite show.  if you go to the website, however, you have to be a resident of canada to view the episodes (pfbbbblllt)...

  • Thanks for the kind words regarding my latest entry though, I must admit as to being in the dark regarding who referred you.

Cannucks get all the good dragon stories.

    Mike

  • haha, booyeah canadian animation.

  • I suppose a deep-fried turkey tastes...like a normal turkey, only different. I can't really describe it. They inject it with flavor and then just dunk the beast in a hot vat. Nothing like fried chicken, as there's no batter, but still quite good. I prefer the good ol' oven-roasted kind myself, but what can ya do.

And he just has a way with those big, self-esteem crushing words!! I shouldn't let it get to me, but I do. However, I still read his blog whenever he updates, dammit. I'm addicted; what a perpetually self-abusive relationship!!

  • I know of a begger who lives not far from my University who wears no clothes at all. Instead he wears and assortment of plastic bags.

  • neat animation. I think the church in general needs to reverse its current thinking on homosexuality entirely. Especially given the hypocrisy in the Catholic church...

  • RYC---i'm not sure i'd make the leap to amidou dialo---the current LAPD commisioner if a refugee of Giuliani time, when the police had unbridled powers and even white folk were scared:eek:

i REALLY do hope that i'm around for JC's second coming...would love to see the looks on those biblehumpers' faces when they see he came back as a gay Mexican...oops, forgot...THEY will be heading the crucifixtion party:rolleyes:

  • RYC---i'm glad my family isn't the only ultra-competitive one, but i dropped out of the competition waaaaaaay back... we have never had wealthy people in our family > we seem to have a self-destructive streak in that area...i wonder if the lack of a bobby, martin, or john has to do with the violent ways they died. it's hard to be an icon for peace and justice when you know a bullet is waiting for you. even though i will never achieve the fame that they did, i only hope that my small contributions to peace and justice will have enough effect to carry on their legacy...MY family seems to have been on a DOWNWARD SOCIAL MOBILITY spiral since the IRISH in us have always embrced the so-called Kennedy agenda...don't forget that Bobby WAS one of McCarthy's staunchest supporters and JFK was REAGAN while Bonzo's sidekick was a unionist Democrat

Whilst i have always been an advocate of Leftist ideas like Children of the Night, which i donate an almost non-existant 25% of my profits to...THIS is the age of MONEY...never mind ART---the Beatles got commercials now

  • I know how good it feels to give  I help out by giving clothes to those without on Christmas. I always enjoy, and the looks on their faces says enough for me :goodjob: .

Anywho, ryc: Yeah, I wish I had waited with the iPod...when my dad bought it in August, it was still over $300 for the 30gb one  Now, it's $248! I was kinda mad when I found that out.--- I enjoyed the house while I was there...and I can't wait to go back soon!

About the pic; looks dark to me because I obviously still have a tan! It's funny how it goes away so slowly! :giggle:

  • wish i was canadian. i wonder if we'll one day have an openly gay pope. now that would be something.
